Wal-Mart to accept pelts as payment
Bentonville, Arkansas
Beginning in November, the World’s Largest Retailer will allow customers to trade Squirrel, Beaver, Possum, Mink and Rabbit pelts in exchange for goods and services offered.
Citing the recent downturn in the U.S. Economy and an unflintching commitment to customer service, Wal-Mart Chief Executive Lee Scott says this was an easy choice.
“Wal Mart has always lead the way in value, now our customers will have even more ways to purchase the items they need.”
Recent losses in global stock markets, coupled with stagnant wages and frozen capital markets have left many consumers worried about their personal finances. According to Scott, the plan was devised to allow customers the opportunity to get what they need, without having to worry about rising consumer debt.
“Our bank dropped the limit on our Visa and ever since my husband Dale lost his job at the foundry, we’ve been struggling to make ends meet,” explains Bentonville resident Cindy McKitsky. “Now that we can pay with furs, things is looking up for us. The whole family gets involved. It’s really brought us closer together.”
Wal Mart has accepted Deer Carcasses since 1996, so the addition of extra animal pelts is no surprise to many. Several locations already have already retrofitted Self-Checkout kiosks to accept the skins and the remaining stores are expected to be brought on board before Thanksgiving.
